Stephanie Doig Edits

Welcome! I’m Stephanie.

A smiling woman with shoulder-length gray/brown hair, wearing a teal shirt, standing in front of a glass building.

I worked in traditional publishing for more than fifteen years. (See my full work experience here.) At Carina Press, I edited debut and bestselling authors, and books I’ve worked on have been featured in the New York Times, the Washington Post, EW, TODAY, and more. While in-house, I developed an extensive knowledge of what it takes to craft a good book, and to get the attention of agents, editors, and readers.

I specialize in romance novels, and have experience in a variety of subgenres, including dark romance, fantasy/romantasy, contemporary, and romcoms. I am absolutely thrilled to be a freelance editor, so I can share the knowledge I’ve gained in-house with a wide range of authors, helping them polish their books and meet their career goals.

Authors who work with me can expect to receive thorough, honest, encouraging edits. I want to make your book the best it can be, whether you’re looking to attract the attention of agents and editors, or prep your book for indie publishing.

    — Lindz McLeod, author of The Unlikely Pursuit of Mary Bennet and The Miseducation of Caroline Bingley

  • “Working with Stephanie was a truly formative experience for me as a debut author. She has a rare ability to balance thoughtful encouragement with direct, honest feedback — the kind that pushes you as a writer while always respecting your voice and vision.”

    — Kelly Kilburn, author of Weaponized and Scandalized

  • “My books—the ones she has worked on and the ones she hasn't—and my craft as a whole have been improved by Stephanie's guidance, her understanding of story and genre, and her commitment to helping authors create their best work.”

    — Ruby Barrett, author of Hot Copy, The Romance Recipe, and The Friendship Study

  • “Stephanie is an absolute dream to work with. She’s helped me with three books and on all three has demonstrated patience, humour and an enthusiasm which truly is appreciated during the often nerve-wracking editing process! Not only is she a lovely human, she has a knack for seeing both the larger plot and the minute detail that take a book from rock to diamond. Her extensive knowledge of the genre really shows—don’t go anywhere else!”

    — Sophie H. Morgan, author of The Witch is BackDewitched, and Season of the Witch
